Description
It is important to understand how neurons do what they do. Neurons send messages electrochemically. This means that chemicals cause an electrical signal. Chemicalsin the body, which are called ions are "electrically-charged". The remote exercise (could be done as a hands-on laboratory exercise as well) allows students build and manipulate a neuron equivalent circuit. This RC circuit components resemble neuron components. Through altering the parts of the equivalent circuit students can observe different neuron parts. Additionally, students will be able to apply the principles of Ohm’s law and understand the functions of resistance and capacitance in a neuron.
The activity was developed in the framework of the Digi-Science project (Grant Agreement N. 2020-1-EE01-KA226-SCH-093387).
